Crows....Magpies.....oh my!

I was woken early early this morning by our most awake and loud neighbors....yes the huge crows that live in our neck of the woods and their cousins the magpies.  They are not content to be sitting on the tops of the pine trees or the poles.  Oh no - they must announce the morning sun is rising and attention everyone!  Wake up wake up.  We sleepy humans just need a bit more sleep.  It is the huge crows that make the most fuss. Protecting their "territory" from the magpies who love to perch on the top of our house or the porch roof.  But they can with that sharp screech and insistent noise be a sinister (altho probably more afraid of the huge crows) adversary.  They love to swope down and peck at the ground - the yard.  Scraps!  where are the scraps?

Oh again early morning risers that they are!  They are the town criers - hear ye hear ye - time to listen.   Time to be at attention.  A reminder that you must be forever vigilant.  Waiting.  Always waiting.  Looking for a movement.  For something to break the peaceful morning.  The other shoe.  The other shoe to fall.

  1. I have a mixture this year of Magpies and Pigeons. They both keep me smiling. July the Magpies had a nest in one of my trees. Just as I came out the door their baby took to jumping out of the nest right at my feet.

They squawked and went crazy trying to keep me away from their baby.
After I repeatedly told them I was not out there to kill their kids; hahaha they calmed down.
Earlier in the spring I put up a couple of bird feeders trying to encourage the little birds to move in down the street.

Hahaha that did not work. The Magpies ripped the small bird stands off and dumped all the bird seed into my crushed rock. Found out the hard way that the seeds included grass which starting growing like mad.
